  • Who is Robert Dickie?

We go through a journey in the life of self-discovery. In his youth, Robert would have latched on to the term athlete but we all form our identities over time. One of the things he found was that our real identity lies deep down in our soul’s, and even though our roles may change, who we are remains the same.

Competitiveness is one of the underlying traits that Robert has identified in his life. This has drawn him to roles where he can lead and achieve.

  • Why leadership roles?

Far too often, there are people that aspire to leadership roles for all the wrong reasons. They don’t see the hard work and hardship that comes with it. Robert feels comfortable taking on that burden.

  • How do you go from athlete to author?

Robert feels like he has learned 100 times more post school by reading books. He had always been a reader and that eventually lead him to starting a blog, which was picked up by a publisher. That conversation lead to a book deal.

  • What are the practical ways to free yourself?

80% of people in North America don’t like their jobs, but they are afraid to make a transition to something better. The first thing you have to do before making a move is to know yourself before you can lead yourself. What are your unique talents? From there you can craft a plan and present it to a group of advisors who will help you along the way. Once you start making steps, your path becomes more clear.

You shouldn’t leap without a plan. Due diligence is definitely a part of the plan, but you can’t get stuck in the research phase. You will have to jump eventually.

Everyone’s position in life will be unique, you will have to figure out the right time to make your leap for you. Sometimes faith in your success is the only thing you can count on.

  • How long do you give yourself to know when a pivot is viable?

Some people are in a constant state of a pivot and not giving themselves time to grow. On the flip side, there are people stuck in something for years without seeing results and not giving up. It’s important to have wise counselors who can give you perspectives and advice. Find people you trust to tell you the truth and help you on the path.

There is always a sense deep down, a dissatisfaction where you feel like you are disconnected from your purpose. You are going to feel it before you know it.

  • The Entrepreneur Myth

Being an entrepreneur is one of the most rewarding things you can do but you will eat off the plates of success and failure at the same time. Never go down the path of entrepreneurship because of the lifestyle that you believe it will afford you. You have to be passionate about what you are undertaking.

  • What are some of the ways to pivot incorrectly?

Pivoting without a plan is always a mistake. Always make sure you have the homefront united by seeking the counsel of your loved ones and wise advisors. You should get the basic skills you need to succeed before you leap.

The shelf life of a college education is about three years. We have to be lifelong learners if you want to succeed in modern society.

No matter what industry we are in, you have to be plugged into the global trends that will impact your world. What are the fast-moving currents that you can plug into, stop pushing so hard for little results, pivot into an industry that creates bigger results in the same amount of effort?
