Proven Pathways:

Today’s proven pathway comes from me:

Maximizing your use of resources is essential for success, and in the case of a short-term rental business, this includes utilizing the items you have accumulated over time.

Your garage, or “lost and found,” so to speak, can be filled with potential opportunities for making extra income. Investing your valuable personal time into liquidating these items may not be worth it; however, leveraging your child's desire to earn money is an excellent idea!

Put them on commission - for instance, I put my daughter on 20% of any gross she got to keep, and 80% came to me. Teaching children how to manage their money is a discussion for another day.

Here are the sites she uses:

  1. This is the one she uses the most: Mercari

  2. If you’ve got a lot of leftover clothing: Poshmark

  3. In case you want to give it all away: Freecycle

Essential News

  • Family Sues Airbnb Over Toddler's Fentanyl Death.
The family of a 19-month-old who died from fentanyl toxicity at an Airbnb rental in Florida is suing the vacation rental company, the rental property's owner, the property manager, and a prior guest. The lawsuit alleges negligence in the child's death and claims that Airbnb failed to ensure the rental was safe for guests. It's unclear how the toddler ingested the fentanyl or where it came from.

    Additional points:

    • Enora Lavenir died in August 2021 after exposure to fentanyl while staying at an Airbnb rental in Florida.

    • The family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Airbnb, the rental property's owner, the property manager, and a prior guest in Palm Beach County Court.

    • Enora's mother found her unresponsive and foaming at the mouth during a family vacation. She was pronounced dead later that day.

    • Synthetic opioid overdoses, including fentanyl, have taken a staggering toll on the U.S. and caused more than 56,000 deaths in 2020, according to the CDC.

    • The lawsuit alleges that Airbnb failed to ensure the rental was safe for guests; despite advertising it as a "peaceful place to stay," the property had a history of being used as a party house.

    • It's still unclear how Enora ingested the fentanyl or where it came from, and the case is closed pending further leads.

    • The Lavenir family hopes to bring attention to the dangers of fentanyl through their lawsuit.

How you can avoid this:

  1. Have a proper screening procedure to discourage potential partygoers.

  2. Have proper security equipment to respond to guests who violate your rules. Your system should be able to notify emergency responders remotely as a verified emergency, and they should arrive within 9 minutes or less.

  3. Have proper cleaning standard operating procedures (SOPs), including photos after the cleaners have completed their work.

  4. Ensure your cleaners are following the CDC procedures for cleaning and disinfection:
